The hotel is located at a superb location for everyone looking to be active - there are numerous sports facilities and running/skiing tracks in the vicinity, not to mention the beautiful nature. The rooms are highly practical and very nicely furnished, loved the ability to use a heat closet to dry moist clothes. Great lighting options, heated shower floor. The price included breakfast provided several options: fresh fruits, porridge, granola, pastry, breads, bacon & eggs, cottage cheese, hams & sausages, salads, and even fish. Oh, and the staff at the reception always smiled! :)

First thing we were thankful for, was that our number was on the 1st floor - we overpacked a little because of the weather, so it was nice to not walk a lot and higher than the 1st floor. We liked that breakfast was inclusive and we liked the buffet. We also liked the light dimming curtains - we went to Pühajärve jaanituli festival and that meant we would come back to the hotel early in the morning, when the sun was rising - and so the curtains were perfect to make the room dark enough to get a good rest. The view out of the window was nice & green - I find it relaxing. The bathroom was also lovely, it had cleaning products and glasses for guests to use for drinking tap water or for teethbrushing and it smelled after magnolia wood there if I'm not mistaken - the ceiling was wooden and that's where the lovely smell came from, reminded me of the smell of a sauna. We had a small fridge in our number - a good addition to put our own food and drinks there to eat a little before sleep. I think we forgot our fridge magnet there, but that's not a big issue - happens 😅. By the fridge was a desk which I was happy over, because we could put our laptop there and kiddo could have fun playing games inbetween sleep and our festival visits - we went for 2 nights/3 days. I was also thankful for the receptonist to remind me of my trip planning for next year's visit - certainly will consider coming back!

Very comfortable and neat appartment, efficient heating which matters in the winter when we have stayed there. Cosy surroundings, fantastic location just few minutes from the lake where you can start your cross-counrty skiing at at a well maintained classical trail from this lake (Otepaa) to Kaariku for the first day. Also great classical trails along the famous Tartu Marathon. And a very kind host, Mati. Our stay was just fantastic. P.S. In Otepaa very well supplied Konsum Coop to do basic shopping.

    Valga is kinda meh.

Valga is kinda meh. Not bad, but also not somewhere you would recommend to someone. You can do everything in the town in 1-3 hours. If you're going from Estonia to Latvia by train, make sure you time the train right because there's only 2 trains per day. You don't want to have to stay in Valga. It's kind of a boring border town. Sure come out, go see the world's most relaxed border crossing, but it's really anti-climatic. Defiantly don't book an expensive hotel because you'll regret it. Book Yasmina if you have to stay in Valga, super cheap and comfortable and you won't feel like you wasted your money (as much).

The Castle hotel is the only real interest in the area but the hotel has an expensive and poor quality restaurant. There are no other options close by. It seems that the hotel relies on day trippers for additional revenue by having a themed flower show. Although the gardens are lovely the day trippers ruin what could be a pampered hoilday.

If you like to enjoy nature you might visit Sangaste.

If you like to enjoy nature you might visit Sangaste. There is a dendrological park 3 kilometers away from Rukki Maja. Recommended in summer, of course. It is close to the Castle which you also can visit or even stay there. If you like skiing, mountain or cross country, then go towards Otepää or Kuutsemäe by car. Also there has been a cross country skiing track from the Castle to Kääriku through many years. In summer use a bike to enjoy the nature.

    We love Otepää & Pühajärve.

We love Otepää & Pühajärve. Fantastic central location in South Estonia. Plenty of hotels, apartments & guesthouses to rent. Perfect for taking day trips to surrounding areas & sites. Town itself is very pretty & has great grocery stores. People & service is exceptional. My husband had a headache, but in Estonia pharmaceuticals are only sold in pharmacies - no headache tablets in grocery stores or petrol stations etc. It was late in the evening and all pharmacies were closed. We went to the local petrol station in hopes to find some pain killers only to find out they are only sold in pharmacies, so the lady at the counter gave us some of her own headache tablets ♥️♥️♥️ I love wild swimming & Pühajärve lake has a great sandy beach + beautiful park for those who love walking. Plus there is a boat rental etc available. All in all a great place to enjoy nature 🪷🌿🤍

There isn't much to do in Taagepera. You can hike, you can have a walk, enjoy the nature or drive around the southern part of Estonia to discover more sightseeings. In Taagepera there is a very nice castle with spa and restaurant, which is a must visit place if you are in Taagepera.
